CHELSEA - Richard Harold Kraft, age 91, died September 25, 2020, at Kresge Healthcare & Rehab Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. He was born in Ludington, MI, and moved to Muskegon with his parents where he attended Muskegon High School and Muskegon Junior College. He graduated in 1951 from Michigan State University College of Civil Engineering and became an avid Spartan.
He started his career working for the Michigan Department of Transportation, and two years later joined West Engineering in Flint. Other early Flint experiences included civil engineering work with Utley Construction and American Civil Engineers. After becoming registered in the State of Michigan as Professional Land Surveyor and Professional Civil Engineer, he established Richard H. Kraft Engineering Inc., consulting civil engineers and surveyors, located in the city of Flint. He retired in 2006, selling the business which still exists as Kraft Engineering and Surveying Inc. His career spanned 54 years.
While in Flint, he was active in Trinity United Methodist Church until it closed, the Flint Junior Chamber of Commerce and served later as president of the Flint Area Chamber of Commerce. For 39 years, he and his family were active cottagers in Bay View, MI. In 2014, he moved with his wife to Chelsea Retirement Community.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Ullrey Kraft; foster daughter, Frances Ann Nance; sister, Suzanne Mateer (Bruce); sister-in-law, Janyce Robson (Gerald); nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by son, David Edward Kraft.
