Wayne Arthur Hittle Obituary

Mr. Wayne Arthur Hittle, Hart Michigan, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was born January 17, 1942, in Muskegon, the son of Caleb and Dorothy (Burmeister) Hittle, brother to Robert and Aloma all of whom preceded him in death. The family resided in Muskegon before relocating to Shelby, Michigan.

Growing up, Wayne loved anything outdoors.  Through high school he was part of his hometown football team and on occasion found himself in the principals office due to some minor incident.  He worked with his dad in the service station while in high school and delivered fuel to people around town. He knew which customers would share their fresh baked goods and produce. Upon graduation, Wayne enlisted in the army and was stationed in both Germany and France.

After discharge, he returned to his home town where he married Sharon Johnson. Together they had three children, Vicki, Paula and Arthur. After a few different occupations including school bus driver, construction and volunteer fire, he settled on a career in law enforcement. In later years, fate brought Deb and Wayne together and he was quickly accepted into her family. Hittle’s Little Bit of Country was born and they spent many years making woodcrafts for shows, family and friends. After dedicating more than 20 years as an Oceana County Sheriff Department deputy, he retired in 1999 and their real adventures began. Wayne always joked he never knew what state they were headed to as long as they were together he was happy.  His faith was unwavering and proven when they lost their way on a Pennsylvania trail and were assisted by a pistol, machete wielding, woodsman. Their annual Florida vacation provided happy hours, games and great friendships. He loved surf fishing with Mike. Wayne enjoyed camping trips with family and friends and was known as the grill master and master fire tender. No matter the adventure they were on, he always looked forward to 3pm happy hour. Wayne will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him and will always be remembered as a hard working, humble man.

Wayne is survived by his: wife of 31 years Deb; daughters, Paula (Jeff) Newmeyer, Vicki (Tom) Alder; son Arthur; stepdaughters Annette Donley (Chris Thompson) and Brenda (Jay) Walicki; grandchildren, Patrick, Nicole, Stephanie, Tommy, Matt, Caleb, Jordyn (Jeff), Chelsi and Austin; great grandchildren James, Shyler, Oakley, Sauyer and Paityn.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11am, Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Shelby Road Baptist Church, 4066 W. Shelby Road, Shelby Michigan, 49455 with Pastor Mark Baker officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10am until the time of his service at the church.   A luncheon will follow.
