Violet Marie (Mata) Bowman, age 92, of Boulder Colorado and formerly of Shelby, Michigan passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 in Boulder Colorado. She was born July 29, 1929, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Clayton and Violet “Martha” Bowman.
Violet spent most of her life in the West Michigan area. She was a devoted homemaker, making sure to meet her family’s needs. Violet was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was affiliated with the Spanish Congregation in Hart, Michigan. Violet loved spending time with family and making homemade meals especially flour tortillas. She enjoyed speaking to others about the Bible and the future hope mentioned in Revelation 21: 3,4.
She is survived by her nine daughters, Frances (John) Padilla, Soyla (Juan) Rodriguez, Senovia (James) Cobb, Amelia (Bill) Smith, Oralia (Joe) Rodriguez, Jesusa “Jessica” (Charles) Wares, Barbara Mata, Carol (Jimmy) Carpenter and Dionicia Mata, and her brother, Daniel Alcantar; as well as 21 grandchildren, 27 great grand children, 3 great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joaquin "Jack" Cantu and her former husband, Pablo Mata, and 8 siblings: Roy Clayton Bowman, William R. Bowman, John E. Bowman, Marry Bowman, Rachel Peña, Sara McCord, Tony Alcantar, and Delbert Alcantar. She also lost 3 grandsons in heart breaking accidents at young ages, Alejandro Rodriguez, Jeremiah Rodriguez and Caleb Rodriguez.
