Thomas M. Ernst, age 75, of Whitehall, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at home following an illness of one and a half years.
Tom was born September 23, 1942 in Montague to Otto and Kathryn (Higman) Ernst. He was a life resident of the White Lake area. He was employed at Howmet Corporation for many years. Following his retirement, he was the live-in caretaker at Michillinda Beach Association for thirteen years.
He attended White Lake Wesleyan Church. Tom was an avid fisherman and had developed a line of fishing lures. He enjoyed league bowling and golfing. Tom married Lois (VanDuinen) on July 17, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; his children, Amy (David) Musante of New York City, Peter (Angie) Ernst of Columbus, Ohio, Tom Ernst, Jr. of Norton Shores, Dan (Holly) Ernst of Shelby and Ellen (Jason) Bullard of Whitehall; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Otto Ernst of Montague; John (Anne) Ernst of Allendale and Paul Ernst of Grand Haven; and his sister, Susan Johnson of Spring Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Kathryn Goeres and Ruth King.
Visitation is Wednesday, April 18th, 10 am until the funeral service at 11 am at White Lake Wesleyan Church Fellowship Hall, 221 E. Elliott St. in Whitehall with Pastor Tom Coffey officiating.
