Mrs. Sylvia Grace Conroy, 88, of Montague, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023. She was born December 18, 1934 in Muskegon to Francis (Frank) and Melvina (Somers) Renouf.
After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, she married Robert E. Conroy on September 26, 1953. Sylvia worked hard to take care of her family and eventually retired from Howmet Corporation after 17 years. She was a devout Catholic, and a long time member of St. James Catholic Church in Montague where she took a very active part in several ministries including: teaching Catechism, serving on the St. James School Board, and main coordinator for both the White Lake Giving Tree and Clothes Closet. She had a soft spot for the poor and those in need. She found great joy in helping people whenever possible.
She loved to travel with her sisters or friends around the United States, Italy, Rome, Paris, Fatima Portugal, and England. Sylvia was a lover of books, and when her eyesight was failing, she listened to books on tape.
Sylvia is survived by her children: Mark (and Lynn) of Jamison, PA, Jeffery (and Julie Miller) of Whitehall, Thomas (and Stephen Smith) of Davenport, IA, Patrick (and Susan) of Montague, and Amy Robbins of Whitehall; 9 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert in 1972; parents, Melvina and Francis; brother, Eugene Renouf; sisters, Paulene McNeal, Patricia Bolek, Evelyn Jones, and Beverly Boehnlein; son, Ted E. Conroy; grandson, Ted Edward Conroy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling Street, Montague, Michigan 49437 with Father Peter Omogo presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services (10:00 AM) at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Montague. A luncheon will follow at the church.
Harris Funeral Home, in Shelby, is in charge of arrangements.
