Rosa Gonzales Obituary

Rosa Amelia Gonzales passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

Rosa came to the United States from Sabinas, Hdg Mexico, when she was 19 years old. She settled in Shelby, Michigan, in 1965.

Rosa was a homemaker and cared for her three mentally challenged sons. She was a Jehovah's Witness and preached in the Oceana County area since 1970. Rosa loved meeting up and spending time with family and friends. Rosa always brought hope, smiles, and laughter to her students and members of her congregation.

In December of 2020, Rosa was diagnosed with Covid and life was not the same for her. Later in January of 2021, two of her sons were diagnosed with Covid and passed away only three days apart.

We will miss her laughter, dancing, and her ability to always be there with a listening ear.

Rosa is survived by: her daughters, Thelma Ruiz, Rosa Amelia Rodriguez, and Lorena Rodriguez; son-in-law, Pablo Rodriguez; three grandsons, Manuel, Jaime, and Alex Rodriguez; and great-granddaughter, Yari Danyeli Rodriguez.

Rosa was preceded in death by: her parents, Refugo and Narcisa (Soto) Frias; and three sons, Victor, Angel, and Mario Rodriguez.

Mario Rodriguez of Shelby passed away Friday, January 29, 2021.   Mario was born December 6, 1963 to Rosa and Manuel Rodriguez in Shelby, Michigan where he spent all of his life.

Mario liked family cookouts and enjoyed swimming in Lake Michigan.  Mario held a position with Progressions Work Center where he worked delivering the newspaper.  He would stop to talk to anyone that would listen.

He was a happy man, loved life, loved his community and especially loved his dog, Chucho.

Mario is survived by and will be fondly remembered by his mother, Rosa Gonzales, his three sisters, Thelma Ruiz, Rosa Rodriguez and Lorena (Rodriguez) Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Pablo Rodriguez; three nephews, Manuel Rodriguez, Jaime Rodriguez and Alejandro Rodriguez; and a huge wonderful family with countless aunts, uncles and hundreds of cousins.

Mario was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Rodriguez, Jr., a younger brother, Jaime Rodriguez, brother, Angel Rodriguez and brother, Victor Rodriguez.

Victor Rodriguez of Shelby passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021.  Victor was born February 27, 1958 to Rosa and Manuel Rodriguez in Laredo, Texas.

He lived most of his life in Shelby, Michigan.  Victor lived a couple of years with his grandmother in Mexico.  He always talked about those years.

Victor loved to travel.  As a family we traveled to Texas and Mexico every year, plus small short trips around Michigan.

Victor held a position with Progressions Work Center, becoming a common fixture while working hard providing services to our community.

Victor will be lovingly remembered for his love of sports, music and hanging around with his friends.  He was a member of Area 21 Special Olympics.

Victor was a member of Progressions bowling team and was one of the high scorers.  He enjoyed watching sports, playing music and strumming his guitar.

Victor is survived by and will be fondly remembered by his mother, Rosa Gonzales, three sisters, Thelma Ruiz, Rosa Rodriguez and Lorena (Rodriguez) Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Pablo Rodriguez; three nephews, Manuel Rodriguez, Jaime Rodriguez and Alejandro Rodriguez; and a huge wonderful family with countless aunts, uncles and hundreds of cousins.

Angel Rodriguez was born November 9, 1959, to Manuel and Rosa Rodriguez, in Shamrock, Texas.

Angel lived most of his life in Shelby, where he enjoyed swimming in Lake Michigan, family cookouts, participating in public functions for special needs adults, and was always the first one there for any special function held for special needs adults.

Angel was most loved among his special community of special needs adults and Oceana County. He also held a position with Progressions Work Center, becoming a common fixture, working hard providing services to our community.

Angel passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 4, 2017. Due to his sudden passing, four other people continued to live. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him dearly.

Angel is survived by and will be fondly remembered by his mother, rosa (Rodriguez) Gonzales; step-father, Juan Gonzales; two brothers, Victor Rodriguez and Mario Rodriguez; three sisters, Thelma Ruiz, Rosa Rodriguez, and Lorena Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Pablo Rodriguez; three nephews, Manuel Rodriguez, Jaime Rodriguez, and Alejandro Rodriguez; and a huge wonderful family with countless aunts, uncles, nieces, and hundreds of cousins.

Angel was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Rodriguez Jr, and younger brother, Jaime Rodriguez.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Harris Funeral Home, 267 North Michigan Avenue, Shelby, MI, 49445. Visitations will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022, and Friday, May 20, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Harris Funeral Home, Shelby.

Following the funeral service on Saturday, there will be a luncheon from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at the Rail Trail Pavilion across the street from the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, to assist with funeral expenses.
