Robert Allen Witte, 88, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024. He was born September 29, 1935, in Fremont, the son of Gilbert Witte and Eila Ostrum.
Robert shared his most cherished moments traveling with his beloved wife, Barbara, exploring new places and creating memories that would last a lifetime. As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he embraced his family with warmth and dedication, always making time for his loved ones.
He had a deep passion for reading, finding solace and adventure in the pages of his favorite books. Gardening was another of his pleasures; he took pride in nurturing his garden, watching it bloom and thrive under his careful attention. Robert’s love for music was evident in his appreciation for Patsy Cline, whose songs often played in the background of his daily life.
Robert dedicated a significant part of his life to his work at DuPont, where he contributed with integrity and commitment until his retirement in 1996. In his retirement, he found joy and camaraderie at the White Lake Senior Center, where he cherished the time spent with his friends and fellow retirees.
Robert is survived by his children: Susan (Kevin) Roeten, David Witte, April (Travis) DeKryger; grandchildren, Kenny (Samantha) Roeten, Kali Roeten, Jeremy Witte, Amanda (Justin) Gilmore, Mason DeKryger, and Cole DeKryger; great-grandchildren, Kruz Roeten, Kage Roeten, Tegan Witte, Wyatt Witte, & Tori Gilmore; siblings, Janet Taylor, Mike Witte, Jim Kroll, and Mike Eirman; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by: his parents, Gilbert Witte and Eila Ostrum; wife, Barbara Jean Witte; siblings, Les Kroll, Larry Witte, and Jim Witte.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling Street, Montague, Michigan 49437. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church, with a luncheon immediately following. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Montague.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The White Lake Senior Center, 8741 Ferry Street, Montague, MI 49437.
