Norma Simon, formally of New Era, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, with her daughters and family by her side. Norma was born August 15, 1943, in Muskegon, the daughter of John and Margaret (Reames) Hoyer.
Norma grew up in Whitehall, Michigan where she attended Whitehall High School, graduating in 1961. Norma was active in many clubs and organizations during her four years at Whitehall High School. After graduation, Norma attended Muskegon Business School, graduating in 1963. Norma worked as an Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper before marrying Charles “Bud” Simon of New Era, on October 24, 1964, at Faith Lutheran Church in Whitehall. In 1969, Bud and Norma moved to New Era where Norma resided until October 2019 when she moved to Illinois to live with her daughter, Shelly Simon Rolf and son-in-law Scott.
Norma continued to work as an Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper for Bud’s construction company and several other businesses they owned over the years. She retired in October of 2019. Norma was an active community member in both New Era and Shelby and spent many years serving on committees with the Oceana County Cherry Queen Festival and the Oceana County Asparagus Festival, along with volunteering for both her daughters many school activities. Norma also opened her home several times to family members in need.
Norma is survived by: her daughter, Shelly (Scott) Simon Rolf of Geneva, Illinois, their sons, Jason and Lucas; her daughter Stacey (Gregg) Simon Yde of New Orleans, Louisiana, their son, Austin (Miranda) Yde, their nineteenth month old son, Shepherd Charles Yde, Norma adored her family and no greater joy existed than seeing her great grandson, Shepherd; her son, Gary (Amy) Janssen, their sons, Steven (Annie) Janssen and Caden Janssen; sister, Marilyn (Gordon) Munn; sister-in-law Julie Hoyer; brother-in-laws, Dick Simon and Terry (Shari) Simon; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Norma was proceeded in death by: her parents, John and Margaret Hoyer; husband, Charles "Bud" Simon; brother, Robert Hoyer; sister, Mary Hoyer.
Funeral Services will be 11 am, Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Avenue, Shelby, Michigan 49455, with Pastor Doug Ogden officiating. Visitation will be held from 5pm until 8pm, Friday, September 29, 2023, at Harris Funeral Home. Interment will follow at New Era Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow.
