Nedra Herrygers

Nedra (Isley) Herrygers peacefully and gently passed away into the Lord’s arms on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Cherry Blossom Manor in Hart. She was 91 years old.

Nedra spent her childhood in the Blooming Valley community east of Shelby. She attended Shelby High School. In 1948, she married Charles Herrygers and moved to the family farm in Elbridge where she spent her entire married life. Charley and Nedra were married for 59 years and had six children together; Pamela (Don) Wernstrom, Deborah Murphy, Randy Herrygers, Jill Oomen, Eric (Pat Campbell) Herrygers, and Alan (Donna) Herrygers. She was blessed with ten grandsons; Brian (Tiffany) Wernstrom, Steve Wernstrom, Evan Murphy, Nathan (Dani) Herrygers, Benjamin (Katie) Herrygers, Brock (Kasha Clark) Oomen, Derek (Alison) Oomen, Kyle (Alesha) Oomen, Gerrit (Laura) Herrygers and Caleb (Andrea) Herrygers—and 21 great-grandchildren.

Nedra was a devoted wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and hard worker, working not only in the house but also in the cherry orchard or hayfield during harvest. She made the best pies ever! She was fun-loving, talented, and artistic—she played the organ, was a skilled knitter, wove baskets, and spent many happy hours at Laura Sponhauer’s ceramic studio. She loved to shop and browse. Nedra was an avid reader who also loved to watch birds at the feeders in the winter months. Most of all, she loved her kids.

Nedra is survived by her children and two sisters, Gail Irey and Brenda (George) Kieft. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her daughter-in-law, Ann (Daly) Herrygers, son-in-law, Thomas Oomen, her parents, Norman and Ardath Isley, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 316 S. Peach Avenue, Hart MI 49420, with Father Danial Schumaker presiding. Visitation will take place on Monday, March 28th 2022 at the Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Ave., Shelby MI 49455 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and one hour before services at the church.
