Mrs. May Marie Kollaritsch passed away peacefully February 16, 2018 at her home in Whitehall Michigan. May was born in Muskegon Michigan on July 26, 1942 to Doris (Schultz) and Carl Hislop. May retired from General Telephone Company in 1993. May spent her life giving to others in many ways. She was a long time leader of the Sunset Riders 4-H Club. She started the Fruitport Schools Choir Parent Club. At the phone company, she was very active in the T.E.A.M. group; who planned many functions for all of the employees there. At her church, St. James Lutheran of Montague, she participated in the Quilters group, sang in the choir, organized the annual Harvest Dinner for many years, and helped to oversee the Sunday School program. May was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and loved the time spent fishing and camping with her family and friends. She was an avid gardener, and shared the many perennial plants with anyone who wanted one. Her gardens were always beautiful and in bloom.
May was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend: Mr. Joseph C. Kollaritsch; and her parents. She is survived by her children: Deborah (Cliff) Reedy of Alvord Texas, Richard (Dawn) Thorstenson of Freesoil Michigan, Randy (Barb) Thorstenson of Fruitport, and Joe (Julie) Kollaritsch Jr. of Clarkston Michigan; 8 grand children and 2 great grand children. May has three siblings: Norma Jean Hannis, Carol Bratt, and Carl Hislop Jr.
In lieu of flowers, May has requested that donations be directed to the building fund of St. James Lutheran Church of Montague to help maintain the kitchen facility that she and Joe supported. The address is: 8945 Stebbins St. Montague MI 49437.
Services: Tuesday February 20th at St. James Lutheran Church. Visitation 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately after. Interment 2 P.M. Oak Grove Cemetery, corner of Whitbeck and Dowling Streets, Montague Michigan.
