Margie Elaine Coon, 77, of Shelby, passed away Friday, April 4, 2025.  She was born March 1, 1948, in Shelby, the daughter of Alva and Sara (Towersey) Best.
 
Margie met her husband and best friend in Jerry, a young man from Dalton Township. They married on May 24, 1968 and thus began a loving relationship until his death December 26, 1998. Margie prided herself in her work ethic, spending the majority of her career in advertising for Viking Foods. Viking Foods was sold and Margie moved on to Mart Dock as the Office Manager and eventually ended her career at Hart Propane. Margie loved spending time with Jerry, as they were inseparable, woodworking, camping, golfing and most importantly, spending time with family and friends, especially their grandchildren that they had so much pride in. After Jerry's death, it was important to Margie that she maintain their ten acres, she did so impeccably and even made improvements to the property. She took pride in mowing the close to 3-acre lawn, gardening and even shoveling, refusing to get a snowblower. Margie loved canning for family and friends, gifting us all Christmas jams, jellies, relish and her famous salsa. 

In the past year, Margie shared with us what a wonderful life she lived. How she was so happy to have met and married Jerry. How the Coon family accepted her from day one and made her feel special. She shared how her friendships meant the world to her and that she was looking forward to the day that she would pass over and join Jerry for eternity. She asked that we include that she loves you all and knowing you all made her life special.
 
Margie is survived by:  her children, Brad (Diane) Coon, Nancy (Wynn Wikman) Dolle, and Susan (Roger) Byrnes; grandchildren, Megan (Adam) Bate, Jimmy (Meridith) Coon, Robby (Anna) Coon, Tommy (Anna Rose) Coon, and Jerry Byrnes; her casino crew of Uncle Bill, Aunt Joan and Aunt Madelyn and longtime friends of Jerry & Margie, Rosemary & Bud (deceased) and Carroll & Denny.
 
Margie was preceded in death by: her parents, Alva and Sara; husband, Gerald; grandson, Andy; brothers: Lester, Ron, Charles, Marvin, Al, Dave and Larry.
 
A time of remembrance will be held at 2 pm, Friday, April 11, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 North Michigan Avenue, Shelby, Michigan, 49455. Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm, Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Funeral Home.
