Lyle (“Oscar”) Jackson passed away peacefully June 9, 2020. He was born January 7, 1930 at home in Frankfort, MI. He spent his youth enjoying fishing, football and above all else the company of the love of his life, his beloved Donna (Ernst) Jackson whom he married in the First Congregational Church of Frankfort in 1950. After they wed, Donna and Lyle set off for a lifetime of adventure together, making a home in Belding, MI where they raised three sons - an experience they all look back on fondly, eliciting memories of classic Americana: a tight knit community, baseball sandlots and infamous family dogs.
Lyle and Donna spent their twilight years playing with their granddaughters at their home in Mears, MI and living on coastal islands in the Gulf of Mexico where they very much enjoyed playing golf with friends and family and the occasional trip to Disney World. In recent years, Lyle’s life long passion for trains (instilled in him by his Grandfather, a steam engine conductor) had culminated in a cross country train trip with his brother Ralph - an experience he described as ‘once in a lifetime’.
Lyle’s life was not without challenge but he approached every setback with a tenacity that was matched only by his loving heart. He will be greatly missed by his brother, Ralph (Peggy) Jackson; his son, Roger Jackson, twin sons, Phil (Patti) Jackson & Pete (Cathy) Jackson; his grandchildren, Katy (Charles) Sole, Kara Valdmanis & Kori (Nathan) Wycihowski; his great grandsons, Jackson Wycihowski, Parker Wycihowski, Charlie Sole & Andrei Valdmanis; and his only great-granddaughter who had a special light in her eyes for only him - Olivia Sole. His family finds the deepest comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his darling wife who preceded him in entering heaven. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The First Congregational Church of Frankfort, 431 Forest Ave., Frankfort, MI 49635.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 7th, 11 am at Mears Cemetery in Mears, Michigan.
