Leonard L. Rood

Leonard L. Rood, age 80, of Shelby, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on Friday, February 16, 2018.  He was born December 14, 1937 in Jackson, Michigan, the son of Leo and Margaret (Stevenson) Rood.

Leonard was raised in Casnovia and Shelby.  He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1955.  He married Ann Wybenga on January 2, 1957.  Leonard served in the Air Force until December of 1958.  He was employed at Benona Hills Farm for forty-three years and also farmed on his own.  Leonard was a lifetime member of the Oceana Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; his sons, Larry (Diane) Rood of Shelby and James (Christi) Rood of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren, Gordon Reed, Jared Reed, Lance (Heather) Rood, Jeremy Fredrickson (and Jessi) and Jacqueline (Sam) Sparks; great-grandchildren, Sydney Reed, Hazel Rood, Landon Sparks, Amanda Sparks, Gemma Sparks, Waylon Fredrickson and Payton Fredrickson; his brother, Donald Rood of Fountain; and his sister, Leola (Larry) Vezina of Togo, Minnesota.  Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Leo; mother, Margaret; and stepmother, Esther.

Visitation is Wednesday, February 21st, 11 am with the funeral service to follow at twelve noon at Harris Funeral Home  with Chaplain Adrian Eising officiating.  Interment will be in Benona Township Cemetery in the spring.  Memorials to the Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O.
