Kenneth "Ken" Matthew Stopczynski Obituary

Kenneth “Ken” Matthew Stopczynski passed away quietly at home on December 23,2024 at the age of 68. He was born on March 11, 1956 in Highland Park, Michigan. 


Ken graduated from Shelby High School in 1974, Michigan State University in 1978 and from Cooley Law School in 1981. He practiced law in Iron Mountain, Michigan for 16 years. The family moved to Boise, Idaho where they lived for 17 years. In 2014, Ken and Sally relocated to Valley City, North Dakota. They have resided in Fort Dodge, Iowa for the past 2 years.


Ken was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served diligently in numerous callings, often in administrative positions. Among his favorites were Ward Clerk and Executive Secretary.


Ken loved to hunt and fish. He hunted deer, elk, antelope, moose, bear, raccoon, and birds. He had coon dogs, bear dogs, and bird dogs over the years.


He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Redwings, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons, University of Michigan football and Michigan State football teams. He enjoyed many hours spent on commentary with his children before, during, and after these games.


Ken was a big supporter of his children’s interests and activities and enjoyed spending time with them. He has spent his time more recently enjoying the activities and company of his grandchildren.


Ken is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Sally (Olds); mother, Arlene (Piszcz) Stopczynski; children, Jennifer (Christopher) Redfearn, Christopher (Monica) Stopczynski, Mark (Kaitlyn) Stopczynski, Kenneth (Caprice) Stopczynski; sisters Patricia Stopczynski, Constance (Brad) Crawford, Victoria (Robert) Newell, Jacqueline (Ron Sietsema) Stopczynski; sister-in-law Deborah Stopczynski; grandchildren Jonathan Redfearn, Abigil Redfearn, Joshua Redfearn, Katherine Redfearn, Ethan Stopczynski, Jared Stopczynski, Lydia Stopczynski, Eliza Stopczynski, Liam Stopczynski, Thomas Stopczynski, Carter Stopczynski, Cadence Stopczynski; an aunt, Judy Stopczynski; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.


Ken was preceded in death by: his father, Stephen Stopczynski; brother, Thomas Stopczynski; Grandparents, Stephen and Kasimira (Dziencoilowska) Stopczynski and Stanley and Irene (Krasnicki) Piszcz.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Avenue, Shelby, Michigan, 49455, with Dr. Christopher Redfearn officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the start of services at 11 am, Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Harris Funeral Home. A luncheon will be provided.
