Kenneth P. Doran, age 82, of Montague, passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 and was greeted with joy by his bride of fifty-three years and grandchildren, Kara Hissong and Sgt. Michael Nafe. He was born November 25, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Patrick Doran and Margaret (Ziegler) Doran. Ken served honorably in the U.S. Army and married Anne (Becker) Doran on October 21, 1961. They shared fifty-three beautiful years together and were blessed with three children.
Ken was retired from Sappi (S.D. Warren) where he was an electrician. He was proud of the fact that he trained and schooled all while working full-time, building the family home and raising his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Patriot Guard Riders, life member of the Holton American Legion #397, Holton Legion Riders, and the White Lake Eagles #3214.
He was a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings. Ken loved hunting and fishing and was a member of many golf, bowling and softball teams throughout the years until his health declined. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Montague where he was proud to be part of the card ministry. If you celebrated a birthday, or experienced an illness or death in the family, chances are that you were blessed to receive a card from him.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Anne and by grandchildren, Kara Hissong and Sgt. Michael Nafe. He is survived by his children, Margaret Doran Everling, Theresa "Terri" (Chris) Hissong, and Steven Doran, all of Montague; his grandchildren, David (Chrissy) Nafe of Kathleen, GA, Ryan Felan of Montague, Patrick Hissong of Grand Rapids and Nick (Brianna) Hissong of New Era; great-grandchildren, Chloe Nafe and Michael C. Nafe; brothers, Gerald (Patricia) Doran of Montague and Thomas Doran of Twin Lake; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, October 3rd from 4-6 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby and Monday, October 4th from 10 am to 11 am at St. James Catholic Church in Montague. The Funeral Mass for Ken will be celebrated by the Rev. Father Peter Omogo on Monday, October 4th, 11 am followed by a luncheon. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery.
