Kathy Ann Owens, 70, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022. She was born April 19, 1952, in Muskegon, the daughter of Rodger and Dorothy Gunderson. Kathy was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
 
Kathy grew up in Whitehall and graduated from Whitehall High School. She earned her nursing degree from Muskegon Community College and worked a long and impactful career as a nurse with a passion for the emergency room.
 
Kathy was a positive presence in the life of everyone she met. Her smile was infectious and she cared deeply for others. She loved to exercise in nature and lived in the woods almost all her life. Kathy enjoyed her retired years as a number one fan at her grandson, Ty’s, sporting events, dabbling in the stock market with her investment club, and finding joy and peace while tending her garden. 
 
Kathy is survived by: her husband, Tom Owens; son, Kurt (Jennifer) Owens; daughter, Rose (Mike) Guilez; grandson, Ty Guilez; and siblings, Reta Curry, Dan Gunderson, Mary Thompson, and Diane Acree.
 
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Rodger and Dorothy Gunderson.
 
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at The Avenue, 4747 1st Street, New Era. Please feel free to bring a dish to pass or a story to share.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Complete Your Degree Program fund at the Community Foundation for Oceana County, P.O. Box 902, Pentwater, MI 49449.
