Johnny Charles Dyer Sr., 76, of Montague, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023. He was born February 24, 1947, in Oceana County, the son of George and Evelyn Dyer.

John attended Whitehall Schools but left before graduating high school, getting voted least likely to succeed. When working, an employer encouraged him to complete his GED and go to college to be an Engineer. While in college he was on the dean’s list the entire time, earning an associate’s degree. John worked at Howmet for 24 years, but left to start up his own business in 1991 with his good friend and partner Jack Smith. That business is T.Q. Machining, Inc., which is still in business. John was an ambitious man; he also was a fruit and livestock farmer while working in the manufacturing industry.

John did find time to marry the love of his life, Linda Robbins, on June 26, 1965, raising 3 sons together on the farm. He loved going to Florida for over 20 years, playing cards, going to the casino, playing golf, horse shoes, and camping. John could be spotted at the Montague V.F. W., especially on Friday night fish fries. John loved his grandkids and interacted with them as often as he could.

John is survived by: his children, John (Lane) Dyer Jr., Jason (Michelle Becvar) Dyer, and Jeffrey Dyer; grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda Castle) Dyer, Karley Dyer, Camrin Dyer; sister, Joann Bachman.

John was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Linda (Robbins) Dyer; sisters, Margie Field and Shirley Allison; brother, William Dyer.

A reception/visitation will be held from 4 pm until 6 pm, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Harris Funeral Home, 267 N. Michigan Avenue, Shelby, Michigan 49455.
