James Neil Woodbury

James Neil Woodbury, 46, of Branch, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born November 28, 1979, in Shelby, the son of David and Kaye (Fessenden) Woodbury.

After graduation James attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy, receiving his Merchant Mariner Credential.  James worked a number of jobs, but loved working the freighters on the great lakes the most.  James loved to hunt and fish, anything outdoors, or spending time with his family and close friends. James was a kind man with a gentle soul.   He Loved spending time with his dog, Jazzy, his eyes lit up when she was around.

James is survived by: his partner and best friend, Julie Nieboer; son, Wesley Woodbury; daughter, Terri Woodbury; brother, Danial Woodbury; sister-in-law, Martha (Sis); parents, David and Kaye Woodbury.

James was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Neil and Joyce Woodbury, Ivan and Betty Fessenden.

Memorial service will be conducted at 12 pm. Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Newman Christian Community Church, 4075 S. 132nd Avenue, Hesperia, Michigan 49421, with Pastor Mike Termer officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 am until the start of services at the Church. A luncheon will be provided.
