Helen F. Schmiedeknecht

Helen F. Schmiedeknecht, age 98, of Montague, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 in Muskegon.  She was born October 8, 1919 in Lincoln, Illinois the daughter of Joseph and Maime (Whitaker) Buchowski.

Helen moved to West Olive, Michigan as a young child.  She then moved again in 1933 to Montague.

Helen loved making quilts with her church group at St. James Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, cooking and this woman knew how to fry fish.

Helen married LeRoy Schmiedeknecht on May 28, 1949 in Montague.  She was a cosmetologist and owned and operated The Beauty Nook. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy and daughter, Dawn Greiner.  She is survived by her children, Margaret Jackson (Greg White), Barbara (Ken) Greiner, LeRoy (Becky) Schmiedeknecht II and Joseph (Linda) Schmiedeknecht; son-in-law, David Greiner; eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Dale Neusome and Joseph Buchowski.

Visitation will be Monday, April 2, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.  There will be no funeral service
