Gloria M. King, age 90, of Montague, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at home. The daughter of Beatrice and Milton Hoag, she was born on March 15, 1931 in New London, Wisconsin. Gloria married Donald G. King on June 9, 1951. Donald's job with DuPont brought them to Montague where they raised five children together. Gloria was the head librarian at the Montague Public Library for 14 years until she retired in June 1990, and she continued to volunteer there for many years. Her love of reading was evident in their home, where stacks of books could be found in every room, filling shelves from floor to ceiling. Gloria loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, boating, swimming and cross-country skiing. She collected antiques, as well as treasures from nature, incorporating driftwood, stones and beach glass into her weavings and creating artful vignettes. The "little things" in which she delighted will continue to be appreciated and enjoyed by the family and friends who loved her dearly.
Gloria is survived by her children, Christine (Allan) Moore of Clarkston, MI, Jeffrey (Jolene) King of Montague, Laurie (Robert) Fulljames of Rothbury, James King (Ed Ziomkoski) of Hersey, MI, and Jennifer (Mark) Erickson of Lawrenceburg, IN. She had 13 grandchildren: Marcus (Mandy) Moore, Rebecca (Al) Buikema, Michael Moore, Christopher (Lianne) Moore, Jason (Jessica) King, Julianna (Brian) Grabenstetter, Jordan (Anna) King, Jentry (Kyle) Willacker, Justin King, Jessica (Tim) Hunt, Julie (DJ) Uithoven, Christian (KaTrena) Fulljames, and Riley Erickson. She had 16 great-grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, infant son Michael, her parents, and her sister Donna.
A memorial service will be planned for a future date.
