Gerald C. “Jerry” Kessler, 84, of Montague, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2022. He was born in Claybanks Township on October 24, 1937 to Walter and Margaret (Alderink) Kessler. He married the former Karen Scheuneman on July 23, 1960. She preceded him in death on February 17, 2014.
Jerry lived his entire life in rural Montague. He worked in the construction trade for more than 40 years, forming Kessler Builders business partnership with his son Rex, and later working with his son Rob. He was an avid bowler, participating and sponsoring teams in leagues for 30+ years. He enjoyed gardening, and was locally famous for his delicious sweet corn each summer. His greatest joy of all was watching his grandchildren participate in Montague athletics. He loved all things Montague: sporting events, the parades, and socializing at area restaurants.
He is survived by four sons, Rex (Joanne) of Montague, Randy (Jim Hornack) of Twin Lake, and Raymond and Robert (Julie) of Montague; brother Ed Kessler of Whitehall, and sister Marjorie Babcock of Whitehall. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karen, his beloved wife of 53 years, and brothers Richard, Henry and Herbert.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 17th, 5-7 pm at the Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. He will be laid to rest in Hubbard Cemetery in White River Township in a private family service. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Montague Athletic Boosters, 4900 Stanton Blvd, Montague, MI 49437.
The Harris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
