George Eugene "Gene" Stark passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at SKLD Nursing Home in Whitehall.  He was born February 18, 1934 in Hoxeyville, Michigan to George and Ruth (Brastrom) Stark, the oldest of five children.

Gene grew up on the family farm in Hoxeyville.  He especially enjoyed horses although later, motorcycles became his favorite ride.  He worked in lumbering and at Caberfae Ski Area.  He served in the National Guard at Camp Grayling from 1950-55.  He married Marilyn "Lyn" Fiers on October 4, 1952 at Clayhill Christian Church in Hoxeyville.  They had four children.  In 1991 he married Betty Bronkema Clayton.  She preceded him in death on April 7th of this year.

Gene and his family also lived in Montague, Hart and Shelby where he worked in hardware sales and appliance repair until he entered the field of plumbing and heating.  He was a partner in Tanner and Stark Plumbing and Heating in Hart and Shelby until his retirement.  He was a member of the Jaycees and even rode a donkey for a donkey basketball game to raise funds for worthy causes.

Gene dreamed of a house on a lake and purchased his dream home on Hart Lake where he could learn how to be a retired businessman.  He enjoyed many happy hours there fishing and gardening.  He gathered the whole family for several 4th of July picnic celebrations.  Gene was a member of Shelby Congregational Church.

He is survived by his children, Vicki (Tim) Looker of Gaylord, Gary (Cheryl) Stark of Shelby, Lori Metcalfe of Grand Rapids, and Randy (Dodie) Stark of Hart; his siblings, Barbara Hankins of Buffalo, TX, James Stark of Cadillac, David Stark of Cadillac and Ruth Ann "Annie" Stark-Auda of Troutdale, OR; his stepson, Trev (Nicole) Clayton of Coopersville;  his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Besides his second wife, Betty, Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers-in-law, Dale Hankins and Willy Auda and his sisters-in-law, Patsy Stark and Mary Stark.

At his request, Gene will be remembered privately by his family.  Please consider the Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O. Box 451, Hart, MI 49420 as a memorial.
