Eugene "Gene" Markiewicz

Eugene "Gene" Markiewicz, born on July 29, 1943, resident of New Era, Michigan, and very loved Uncle, passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2022.

Gene served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1972.  Shortly after, he began his career as a postal clerk at the post office in Shelby, where he  retired in 2004.  Gene was a devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of Fatima church where he was a Eucharist Minister and taught Catechism.  He dedicated 20 years his life to taking care of his mother, Agnes Markiewicz. 

He was a devoted Uncle, spending a lot of time taking his nieces and nephews fishing and taking them to Goodrich Park to eat McDonalds and feed the seagulls.  Uncle Gene could be spotted at nearly every school and sporting event over the years.   Gene was affectionately known as "Mean Gene" by Brown Bear employees, where he spent every morning putting his accounting skills to work.   He was a member of Benona Shores Golf Course and Oceana Golf Club where he played many rounds with his nephew Andy and great nephews; Titan, Atlas and Ivan.  During one of these outings in 2020, much to his nephews excitement, Gene got a hole in one.

Gene also enjoyed photography, bird watching and sitting in the sun.  While a quiet man, he was always quick to laugh or share a good "Dad" joke.  He had the Markiewicz sense of humor for sure and will be dearly missed.

Gene is survived by his brother George, of Fox Lake, Illinois, and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation has taken place, no service or visitation will be held.  A celebration of Gene's life will take place with Polka music when the weather is warmer.
