Duane Douglas Vannett

Obituary

Duane Douglas Vannett (Dutch), age 75, of New Era, went home to be with his Lord peacefully on May 12, 2022 at home.  He was born April 9th, 1947 in Shelby, to the late Robert and Hermina (Reitsema) Vannett.
  
Duane was a graduate of West Michigan Christian High School in 1965 and was attending college when he was drafted by the United States Army in August of 1966.  Duane completed one tour in Vietnam before returning to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to complete his military service in August of 1968.  In September of 1973 he met Linda Grinwis who became his wife on September 6th of 1974.  They were blessed to celebrate over 47 years of marriage.  Together they were further blessed with two sons.

Duane was a caring, hardworking, patriotic man who was a friend to many.  He was a member of New Era Reformed Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and elder.  He was a loyal member of the American Legion Post 30.  He served on the Shelby township board for several years.  After spending 28 years at Raydon Lumber working in sales in addition to farming asparagus for many years he finished his career following in his fathers foot steps by becoming a used car salesman.

Duane enjoyed hobbies of hunting, fishing and gardening.  Above all he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones especially when it came to his grandchildren who he called his greatest pride and joy. 

Duane is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda; sons Ryan Vannett and Ross (Katie) Vannett; four grandchildren Jacob, Tehgan, Abbygail and Maddison; brothers, Roger (Bonnie) Vannett, Robert Jr (Sue) Vannett; sister Mary Fortun; brother-in-law Gary (Mary) Grinwis; sister-in-law Pamela Grinwis; mother-in-law Wanda Grinwis.

Duane was preceded in death by; his parents Robert and Hermina Vannett; brother Eugene Vannett; sister-in-law Louanne Vannett; niece Candice Fortun; father-in-law Dale Grinwis; nephew Chad Grinwis.

Funeral services for Duane will be conducted at 2pm Monday, May 16, 2022 at the New Era Reformed Church, 4775 1st Street, New Era, Michigan 49446 with Pastor Tom Kragt officiating. Visitation will also be held on Monday May 16, 2022 at New Era Reformed Church prior to the service from 12pm-2pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Era Christian Elementary School, 1901 Oak Ave, New Era, MI 49446, or the American Legion Post 30, PO Box 311, Shelby MI  49455.
