Dorothy P. Bucher

Dorothy P. Bucher, born March 27, 1924, passed away at home surrounded by her family Wednesday, March 20th, 2019.  She was the daughter of Amil & Pearl (Hilbourn) Johnson.  She married Samuel P. Bucher, Sr January 26, 1946.  Dorothy is survived by her children Mary Ann (Mic) Bearss, Samuel Jr. (Janis) Bucher, Karen Hammann, and Janet Crothers (Dave Krantz);  grandchildren,  Doug & Renee Bearss (Conner), Adam & Lisa (Bearss) Hamilton, Samuel E. (Jenn) Bucher (Breeann, Mariah, Autumn, Nathan), Justin & Sarah (Bucher) Douty (Max, Lillian, & Robert), Todd & Beth (Bucher) Baker, Brett & Michelle Beachum (Alyx, Ayden, Avery), Mike & Angie Garcia (Camryn & Taylor), Michael & Brianna (Crothers) Kohls.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Samuel, brothers Carl & Frank Johnson, sons-in-law Bill Hammann and Bryan Crothers.

Dorothy was a graduate of Butterworth School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.  She worked in Shelby, MI for most of her nursing career, commonly known as the “shot lady”.  She taught Gray Ladies, Candy Stripers, was a member of the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, mentored and was a pen pal to Shelby elementary school children for seventeen years; a Red Hat Lady, medical care volunteer, and active member of the Shelby Congregational UCC.

Visitation will be held on Friday March 22nd from 5 pm-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby, MI and a celebration of life Saturday March 23rd at noon with a visitation at 11 am at Shelby Congregational UCC with luncheon following. Memorials should be directed to the Shelby Congregational UCC, 51 E. Third Street, Shelby, MI  49455.
