Donald J. Alvesteffer

Donald J. Alvesteffer, age 84, of Rothbury, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at White Lake Assisted Living Center.  Don was born May 3, 1937 in Hart to Ermine and Leola (Bellgraph) Alvesteffer.

He was raised in Hart.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.  Don married Dolores (Rickelmann) on May 2, 1959.  They moved to Rothbury in 1960.  Don was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Rothbury.  He was employed by Sealed Power (Dana Corporation) for forty years before his retirement.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, Sudoku and crosswords.  Don loved gardening.  He had a large garden where he grew vegetables and strawberries.  Dolores preceded him in death on July 9, 2018.

He is survived by his children, Ed Ryan, Jane (Steve) Hostetler, Angie (Tony) Burke, Lucy (John) Lewis, Philip (Cheryl) Alvesteffer, Ted Alvesteffer, Sharon (Art) Cory, Wendy Alvesteffer, Rick (Elaine) Alvesteffer, and Brad (Nicole) Alvesteffer; brothers, Richard Alvesteffer and Leon (Laura) Alvesteffer; and seventeen grandchildren.  Besides his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Glen and Jerome and sisters, Ruth Kokx, Shirley Fillips, and Clara Monton.

Visitation is Thursday, October 7th, from 6-8 pm with praying of the Rosary at 7:30 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 8th, 11 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Rothbury.  Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Assumption Cemetery.  Memorials to Harbor Hospice, 1050 W.
