David L. Waller, age 76, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday March 6, 2019 in Muskegon. He was born August 4, 1942 in Chicago, the son of Harry F. Waller and Retta A. (Cannon) Waller.
Dave worked as a railroad detective in Chicago for ten years. He moved his family to Benona Township where he unsuccessfully ran for sheriff and then became a constable for Benona Township for one year before being hired as a county sheriff deputy with Oceana County. As a deputy, Dave taught hunter safety, snowmobile safety and boater safety. He was a firearms instructor and a range officer. Dave spent his last ten years with the sheriff department as a marine officer where he enjoyed working with the coast guard.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his children, Darin (Angie) Waller and their children, John, Logan, Cameron, Cassie, Solomon, Kelcea, Joe, Yayra and Mansah; his son, Garret (Alyssa) Waller and their children, Bryson (Alexis), Shaely, Treyjin and Declan; his son, Dustin (Sherry) Waller and their children, Garrin and Evan; and his son, Kevin and his children, Kadin, Liam and Ashlyn; his brother, Harry (MaryBeth) Waller; and sisters, Mary Lou (Mike) Schuyler, Joanne Sellers and Susan (Earl) Newling; and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Robert Sellers.
Visitation is Monday, twelve noon until the memorial service at 2 pm at Shelby Road Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. Memorials may be directed to Shelby Road Baptist Church, 4066 W. Shelby Road, Shelby, MI 49455.
