Anna Mae Owens died on July 1, 2022 at the age of 95 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Anna Mae was born November 2, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy and was a banking secretary after attending Dyke & Spencerian Business College. On June 2, 1951 she married George Thomas Owens at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. Together they raised twelve children while living in Cleveland, Ohio; Lincroft, New Jersey; and Whitehall, Michigan. Anna Mae and George were active parishioners at St. James Catholic Church in Montague, Michigan for over 40 years, where Anna Mae served as chairwoman of religious articles and the Legion of Mary. She acted in several plays at the Howmet Playhouse and enjoyed many artistic hobbies over the years. Most memorable were her basket and tapestry weaving.
Anna Mae is survived by her children Thomas Owens (Kathy), Patricia Gable-Miller (Bruce), Joseph Owens (Mary), William Owens (Lisa), Therese Worth (Richard), James Owens (Laura), John Owens (Mary Lee), Robert Owens (Olga), George W. Owens (Cherie), Maureen Owens (Rick Birdsley), Stephen Owens (Ann Marie); 27 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother John Conway (Margaret); sister Jane Volz (Dave); sister-in-law Betty Conway; and nephew George Cross, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Owens; son Michael Owens; son-in-law Roger Gable; grandson Brian Gable; parents Joseph Conway and Julia (Walsh) Conway; brothers Robert and Joseph Conway; sisters Agnes Ussai, Sr. Patricia Conway, Catherine Koch, Marie McMahon; brothers-in-law Jordan Ussai, Art Koch, Jack McMahon; and sister-in-law Betty Cross.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling Street, Montague, Michigan 49437, with Fr. Peter Omogo presiding. The family will host a Rosary one hour prior to mass at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Montague, followed by a luncheon at the church.
