Alvin V. Cooley, age 77, of Muskegon, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 in Muskegon. Alvin was born June 21, 1943 in Cadillac, Michigan.
He lived in Muskegon until the age of seven. He also lived near Whitehall, Rothbury, Cadillac and Hart before entering the Army and serving from 1960 to 1963, serving in Vietnam. Alvin settled in Muskegon in 1968.
Al was known as the “Pop Corn Man” and “Mr. Butter Cup” as he owned and operated the Butter Cup Pop Corn Shop in Muskegon for thirty-one years before his retirement.
He is survived by his brothers, David (Kim) Betts, Greg (Paula) Betts, sisters, Debbie (Michael) Anderson, Cathy (John) Fredenburg, Cheryl (Jason) Wiethoff, Karen (David) Cadle and Mary Jo (Dominic) Pastotnik; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Sharon Kowalski and is survived by her son, Wayne Kowalski. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Verna Betts; stepfather, Royal “Al” Betts and his father, William Cooley.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 4th beginning at 2 pm with the funeral service to follow Sunday at 3 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. Precautions regarding COVID-19 will be followed during the visitation and funeral. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rothbury.
