Alice Hughes Obituary

Alice Marie Hughes, 76, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 10, 1947, to Edward and Laura (Hildebrandt) Uber. 

 Alice lived in Muskegon and attended Mona Shores until she moved to Shelby when she was 16 years old.  She graduated from Shelby High School in 1965.  On July 9, 1966, she married the love of her life, Michael Hughes.

Alice attended West Shore Community College where she became a nurse.  She worked for a number of years as a nurse at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon and in Home Health Care before changing careers and working at Howmet Aerospace in Whitehall.  She retired from Howmet Aerospace in 2008.  Alice enjoyed spending time with her family and her animals, researching genealogy, having coffee at the Shelby Bakery, and trying her luck at the casino. 

Alice is survived by: her husband of over 57 years, Michael; sons, Brandon Hughes of Shelby, Jon (Shelby) Hughes of Pentwater; granddaughter, Abby Hughes; sister, Barb (Duane) Love of Shelby; and her childhood friend, Charlotte Skinner. 

Alice was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Edward Uber; and niece, Jody Love.

In accordance with Alice’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services will be held at this time.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Oceana County Animal Shelter, 2185 West Baseline Road, Shelby, MI 49455.
