Alan Francis Hoffman, 68, of Rockford, formerly of Shelby, died Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Bishop Hills Assisted Living in Rockford. He was born November 21, 1952, in Hart, the son of Albert and Dorothy (Bedell) Hoffman. Alan lived in Hart until the age of 7 when the family moved to Shelby. Alan was a 1971 graduate of Shelby High School. He was employed at Howmet in Whitehall, starting in 1985, until he retired in 2014, and moved to Mount Pleasant shortly after. Alan served in the Army, enjoyed learning about history, watching sports, especially the Lions and Tigers, and loved to travel.
Alan is survived by his son, Benjamin (Jamie) Hoffman of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his grandchildren, Lucas, Elsie, and Mason, sister Nancy (John) Garvey of Muskegon, brothers, Steven (Virginia) Hoffman of Ashland, Pennsylvania and David Hoffman of Longview, Washington, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth (1962), brother Wayne (2019), and grandson Dylan (2014).
Per his wishes, Alan will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby. Alan’s family would like to thank the excellent staff at Bishop Hills Assisted Living in Rockford and Spectrum Health Hospice for their compassionate care of Alan in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Alan’s name to one of several great causes through The Spectrum Health Foundation or Bishop Hills Assisted Living.
