Virginia E. "Ginny" Howse, age 94, of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at home.  She was born May 15, 1926 in Highland Park to Melvin and Lillian (Miettunen) Birkness.  Virginia graduated from Hart High School in 1945.

She married Fred Howse on October 25, 1952.  He preceded her in death on August 1, 1994.  Mrs. Howse was a registered nurse and worked as a private duty nurse at several hospitals in the Detroit area.  She retired in 1986 after working for her last eight years at Arnold Homes (assisted living) in Detroit.  The Howse's moved to Shelby at that time.

She is survived by her children, Dayle Williams, Brad Howse and Brian (Joy) Howse; her grandchildren, Alison (Steve) Hannahs, Nick (Liz) Szilagyi, Jacob (Michelle) Howse and Traverse Williams; great-grandchildren, Mathieu Hannahs, Brendan Hannahs, Gracie Hendrixon, Waylon Szilagyi and Amia Szilagyi; and her brother-in-law, Bill Meyer.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred, her sister, Gloria Meyer, son-in-law, John Williams, and daughter-in-law, Ann Howse.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29th, 11:30 am at Harris Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 1 pm at Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Fred.
