We regret to inform that Roberta Jean Wadel, born of Rita and Jerry Wadel on the twenty-first of July 1949, passed through this life on Saturday the thirtieth of October 2021.

Roberta affected many lives during her time with us. As a special education teacher at East Grand Rapids Public Elementary School during her thirty four year tenure from 1971 to 2005 she was a steadfast colleague and impacted countless students and parents in the community. Always an avid traveler she first visited the Orient shortly after China was opened to the west in 1972. Her travels accelerated on her retirement and she finally visited all seven continents with a trip to Antarctica in 2015. She was a member of many social groups including but not limited to various book clubs, canasta, the girl scouts, quilting and stitching clubs. She loved to read and accumulated an extensive library of books in spite of her attempts to donate books to libraries and other charitable organizations as fast as she could.

Roberta is survived by her son Eric Clover-Wadel; her daughter Amanda and Ole Jacob Gjertsen; her grandchildren Amalie, Alexander and Mathilde; her sisters Paula Wadel, Georgia Barton (Bruce), Claudia Hostetter (Jeff), Karla Wadel and Pat Gowell (Les); her brothers Rick Wadel (Julie) and Nick Wadel. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Rita and Jerry Wadel and her sister Mary Rita.

A memorial gathering will be held at Harris Funeral Home 267 N. Michigan Avenue, Shelby, MI on Thursday the fourth of November 2021 from 2 to 5 pm with the burial preceding at 12:30 pm in Hart Cemetery.
