Robert V. Helmer, age 96, of Shelby, passed away on March 25, 2021 in Shelby.  Robert was born January 15, 1925, the son of Margaret and Edward Helmer.  Robert served three years in the United States Army Air Corp including ten months in Italy.  After receiving his honorable discharge, Robert married June (Swinton) on June 4, 1945.  He worked at Continental Motors in Muskegon for forty years.

Robert is survived by his wife of seventy-five years, June; his children, Rick (Nancy) Helmer, Sandy Merrill, and Larry Helmer; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Vicki Hayes, and his brothers, Earl, Glen, Art, and Donald Helmer.

A military graveside service will be conducted Friday, June 11th, 1:30 pm at Elbridge Township Cemetery.
