Robert "Bob" Edward Bays, 88, of New Era, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 7, 2026.  He was born February 24, 1938, at home in Crystal Valley Township, the son of Clarence and Catharine (Lathrop) Bays.

After Bob graduated from Shelby High School in 1956, he enlisted in the United States Marines, receiving an honorable discharge in 1958. A couple of years later Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1964. After his military service, Bob found work with United Airlines: handling bags, loading or unloading planes, ticket counter, even holding an umbrella for Liberace, where ever help was needed Bob was the go-to person. His association with United Airlines allowed Bob to travel the world. Eventually Bob came back to Oceana County, settling in the New Era area.

Bob is survived by: his sister, Wanita (Charles) Pretty; many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by: his parents, Clarence and Catharine; brothers, Kenneth and Donald Bays; and nephew, Charles "Chuckie" Pretty.

Cremation has taken place; no services are scheduled at this time.
