Rick Alan Helmer, 75, of Hart, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021. He was born April 16, 1946, the son of Robert and June (Swinton) Helmer.

Rick was a graduate of Shelby High School, and later owned and operated a logging business in the area, and hauled cattle for surrounding farms. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, scrapping, and most of all, riding his Harley.

Rick is survived by: his loving wife, Nancy Helmer; mother, June Helmer; daughter, Ricki Helmer; step-children, Marianne Brown, Michael (Laura) Hicks, Jason (Allison) Dirheimer, Jarred Dirheimer, and Anthony VanBogelen; adopted son, Jesse Gonzales, and his daughter, Angel; 13 grandchildren; sister, Sandy Merrill; brother, Larry Helmer; cousin, Ray Helmer; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and his dog and faithful companion, Buddy.

Rick was preceded in death by: his father, Robert Helmer; sister, Vicky Hayes; and wife, Anita Helmer.

In accordance with Rick's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.

The Harris Funeral Home, in Shelby, is handling arrangements.
