Michael J. Buitendorp, age 40, of New Era,  passed away unexpectedly while responding to a fire call for the Grant Township Fire Department on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.

Mike was born March 24, 1980 in Fremont.  He was raised in Fremont and received a bachelor's degree in information technology from Baker College.  He married Anna (Jimison) on January 11, 2014.  Mike had lived in Grant Township the past seven years.  Prior to that, he lived in Muskegon and Georgia.

He was employed as the I.T. Director for Shelby Public Schools for five years before becoming the I.T. Coordinator for Oceana County just one week ago.  Mike was a member of the Grant Township Fire Department and the Grant Township Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; his children, Jasper Viscome, Isabel Buitendorp, Redding Buitendorp and Andrew Buitendorp; his parents, David and Cindy (Deuling) Buitendorp; mother-in-law, Charlotte "Sherry" Jimison; sister, Kimberly (Patrick) Robinson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Connie (Jeff) Cussimanio and Justin (Heather) Jimison; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jim Jimison.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 23rd, 2 pm at Eagles Cemetery, 1 mile east of Oceana Drive on Arthur Road in Grant Township.
