Marva Jean
Staples
September 23, 1945 – May 24, 2026
Marva Jean Staples, 80, of Walkerville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Hart, Michigan, on September 23, 1945, Marva was the daughter of Wallace and Maxine (Morehouse) Terryn.
Marva graduated from Walkerville High School and later married the love of her life, Laverne Staples, on November 4, 1967, in Hart, Michigan. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and caring for others.
Marva dedicated much of her life to helping people. She worked as a CNA at Shelby Hospital and Oceana County Medical Care Facility before stepping away to raise her daughters. After
her girls were grown, she returned to the workforce and eventually retired from Gray & Company.
More than anything, Marva was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend. She had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor,
and just the right amount of sarcasm that those closest to her will forever cherish. Her home was always open, and no one ever left hungry. Her grandchildren will miss her homemade
noodles and waffles the most! Marva had a generous heart and was always willing to help anyone in need.
One of her greatest joys in life was supporting her grandchildren. Whether it was sporting events, school activities, or special milestones, she was always there cheering them on from the sidelines. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in all who knew her.
Marva is survived by: her daughters, Tammy Smith and Amy (Jeff) Herrick; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew Staples, Skylar Smith, Tristan Smith, Caleb Herrick, and Emma Herrick;
and her brother, Terry Terryn.
Marva was preceded in death by: her parents, Wallace and Maxine Terryn; husband, Laverne Staples; and sister, Janice.
In keeping with Marva's wishes, no public service or memorial will be held. The family will honor her life privately with a graveside ceremony.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Lake Michigan Senior Living and Community Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Marva and her family.
In memory of Marva, donations may be made to Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O. Box 451, Hart, Michigan 49420.
Harris Funeral Home, in Shelby, is in charge of arrangements.
