Kevin J.
Shoup
April 2, 1966 – July 3, 2019
Kevin John Shoup, age 53, of School Section Lake passed away unexpectedly of heart conditions on July 3, 2019. Kevin was born on April 2, 1966 in Ludington, the son of James and Donna (Tava) Shoup. A 1984 graduate of Mason County Eastern, Kevin played basketball for Muskegon Community College where he met the love of his life, Betty Warmuskerken.
Together they raised three children, Brittney, Chris, and Melissa. His greatest joy was spending time with them and being a grandfather to their children. Kevin was a loyal employee at Pepsi Company for over 25 years where he earned many awards including the "Ring of Honor" and a dedicated coach to numerous MCE and Pentwater basketball and softball teams, where he was a major influence in the lives of many local athletes.
Kevin was a sports enthusiast, he loved teaching Chris to play basketball, and softball to Brittney and Melissa. He was a fan of college sports, in particular MSU football and basketball and LSU softball. He enjoyed deer hunting with his son and brothers and fishing with his grandchildren. He especially loved traveling with his family to visit cities and athletic teams across the country.
Kevin was an ethical, honest, straightforward, and deeply caring man who will be greatly missed. Despite battling a kidney illness for over 30 years, he never complained and continued to push himself and others to be their best.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 29 years, Betty; his daughters, Brittney (and Joe) Kraus and Melissa Shoup; his son, Christopher Shoup (Jamie Farber); his grandchildren, Aria, Kyra, Tyler, Ella, Peyton, Aiden, Natalie; his father-in-law Glen Warmuskerken; his parents, James and Donna; his siblings, James (Betsy) Shoup, Kimberly (Dave) Slimmen, Paul (Susan) Shoup, Julie (John) Berghorst, Nichole (Mike) Grant, Robert (Amanda) Shoup, John (Alison) Shoup, Gretchen Weidus, Sarah (Matt) Wood, and Rachel Gaudette; and many many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Jeanine Warmuskerken and his grandparents.
A visitation/reception will be held Friday, July 12th, from 5-8 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. Memorials for his children's college education fund are appreciated.
