Gordon “Gordy” Anderson, of Shelby, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Throughout his final day, he was comforted by the presence of his sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and brother—a reflection of the family that meant everything to him. Born August 14, 1937, in Shelby, Michigan, Gordon was the son of Edward and Minnie Anderson.

Gordy graduated from Shelby High School and married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Oberlin, on April 12, 1958. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, hard work, and service to their community, sharing more than 64 years of marriage before Dorothy’s passing in 2022.Gordy spent much of his life farming and caring for the land he loved. Beyond farming, he was a gifted toolmaker and entrepreneur who founded AMS Manufacturing, Inc. in the early 1980s. Through hard work, ingenuity, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship, he built a successful business and earned the respect of customers, colleagues, and friends throughout the community. His passion for tractors extended far beyond the farm. Combining his love of antique machinery with the same entrepreneurial spirit that helped him build AMS Manufacturing, Gordy was a founding member of the Oceana Antique Tractor Society (OATS), where he enjoyed countless tractor shows, events, and friendships. He was also a proud member of the Shelby Optimist Club, believing strongly in giving back to his community and enjoying the fellowship and friendships it provided. Above all, Gordy cherished his family. He and Dorothy raised five sons and created a home where family gathered often and everyone was welcome. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Gordy's Christian faith guided him throughout his life and remained a constant source of strength and purpose. Gordy and Dorothy treasured their winters in Florida, where they formed lasting friendships. One of Gordy’s favorite pastimes was taking evening drives—stopping for ice cream, visiting White Lake, or watching sunsets over Lake Michigan. Those moments were especially meaningful because they were often shared with Dorothy and remained among his most cherished memories after her passing. Gordy will be remembered for his steadfast faith, love of family, entrepreneurial spirit, strong work ethic, quiet wisdom, and willingness to lend a helping hand. His gentle presence and kind heart leave a legacy that will continue through generations.

Gordy is survived by: his sons, James (Carrie) Anderson, Jeff (Richele) Anderson, Steven (Amy) Anderson, Scott (Lynette) Anderson, and Mark (Ben Veach)Anderson; grandchildren, Joshua (Laura) Anderson, Edward (Courtney)Anderson, Tiffany (Lucas) Houghton, Gabriel Anderson, Jori (Dominic) DeGiulio, and Caleb (Madilyn) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Saige, Selah, Lilah, Fisher, Scout, Oliver, Jace, Joseph, Jack, Aspen, and Penelope; his brother, Delbert Anderson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is also remembered by Tracey Anderson, mother of Gabriel and Caleb (Madilyn)Anderson and grandmother of Jace, Joseph and Jack Anderson.

Gordy was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Dorothy Anderson; parents, Edward and Minnie Anderson; brothers, Bruce Anderson and Phil Anderson. While his family mourns his passing, they find comfort knowing he has been reunited with the love of his life, and perhaps together once again enjoying a sunset, side by side.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5631 W. Stony Lake Road, New Era, Michigan 49446, with Pastor Sarah Samuelson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 pm until 7 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Harris Funeral Home, 267 North Michigan Avenue, Shelby, Michigan 49455 and also one hour before services on Thursday at the Church.
