June 13, 1932 – December 11, 2020
Mrs. Gladys Joan Woodland, eighty-eight years young, of Shelby, passed of complications related to COVID-19 on December 11, 2020 at 10:47 pm at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility.
Gladys was born in Hart, Michigan on June 13, 1932 to Archibald McLain Beggs and Nellie Irene Robbins. Gladys was one of nine children.
She graduated from Hart High School in 1950. She went to work for the telephone office after graduation. Gladys met George while out with friends and soon fell in love, they married June 21st, 1952. In 1955 the Woodland's purchased the Shelby Bakery.
The two welcomed their only child, Debra Jean Woodland (Pfeiffer) in February of 1961. Together they ran the bakery and enjoyed serving the community. They retired from the bakery in 1975. Gladys went to work at the Medical Care Facility for 20+ years, as she needed something to do with her time. George passed unexpectedly June 23, 1995.
Gladys' hobbies included quilting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, bible study groups and mentoring others. She enjoyed donating her time at the school, and to other activities in the community. She was a busy bee and a positive light in the community. Gladys had a zest for life and a passion for her Savior, she wanted to share her love of Christ with others.
She was predeceased by her husband, and brothers Lauren Beggs, Don Beggs, and Rich Beggs. Survivors include: brothers, Ralph Beggs of Mears and Sonny Beggs of Mears; sisters, Louise Lancaster of Bridgeport Illinois, Marie Near of Rothbury, and Norma Whiting of Wichita Falls, Texas; daughter, Debra Jean Pfeiffer of New Era; son-in-law, Douglas Scott Pfeiffer I; grandson, Derrick George Woodland and wife Andrea Woodland; grandson, Douglas Scott Pfeiffer II; and great-granddaughter, Cora Paige Woodland.
Visitation is Friday, December 18th from 5-7 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby. The burial and a reception will be held in the spring of 2021. Please consider Rothbury Community Church, 2500 W. Winston Road, Rohtbury, MI 49452 as a memorial in lieu of flowers.
