Evelyn Hopkins Jones, age 89, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 22, 2026, in her home in Hart, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 12, 1937, in East LaPort, North Carolina, the daughter of Calvin and Daisy (Moses) Hopkins.

Evelyn graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk, Virginia in 1955. She retired from Norfolk Southern Railway in Norfolk, Virginia.    

Evelyn was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Suffolk, Virginia for many years. She was influential in starting the "Prayers and Squares" ministry at the church. They were able to make many quilts for people suffering from illnesses. Evelyn was always the "head" of some committee. She taught children's Sunday school and was also in the choir. She loved her church and the Lord very much. Evelyn was an avid reader. She loved mystery books and the Bible.

Evelyn loved music and going to concerts, especially Josh Groban. Evelyn and her late husband Marvin (Pete) Jones enjoyed traveling all over the world. They especially like traveling on the Amtrack train. They even took a few of their older grandchildren on several trips. She loved dancing with her husband at Cedar Point Country Club in Suffolk, Virginia. She was a member of the Women's Traffic Club serving as president for many years.

Just five years ago she decided to move to Michigan to spend her last years surrounded by the majority of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wasn't fond of the cold weather in Michigan but her family made it worth it.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Cynthia (David) Fleck of Hart, Michigan, Shari (David) Rubright of Waxhaw, North Carolina, stepdaughter Kelly Maguire of San Diego, California grandchildren, Jeremy Fleck, Amy (Greg) Fleming, Brandon (Lindsey) Fleck, Lindsey (Michael) Garland, Holly (Brian) Brown, Blake (Arianna) Rubright and eight great-grandchildren

Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents, Calvin and Daisy Hopkins; husband, Marvin T Jones Jr.; brother, Jerry Hopkins; son-in-law, Michael Maguire.

Cremation has taken place; private services will be held at 11 am, Thursday, November 19, 2026, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1885 Bridge Rd Suffolk, Va 23433
