Due to COVID-19 concerns, the service for Dave will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church as a "drive in" service in the east parking lot of the church. You will be in instructed to tune your car radio when you arrive at church to be able to hear the service.
Dave Moon, age 79, of Whitehall, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 in Muskegon. He was born August 26, 1941 in Hartford, Michigan to Ruby Moon and Flossie (Ulam) Moon.
Dave was raised in Lawton and graduated from Gobles High School. He graduated from Western Michigan University and began his teaching career at Paw Paw. Dave taught in Paw Paw for three years before coming to Whitehall where he was a counselor and teacher for thirty-seven years. He received his Masters in Education from Western and was the first elementary level counselor in Muskegon County. Dave taught language arts at the Whitehall Middle School for many years.
Dave loved his church and was active in the choir, bell choir, council, men's club and the food pantry. He had also served on the Whitehall Library Board and the board of review for the city of Whitehall. He enjoyed being a camp counselor at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and being a staff member at VanBuren Youth Camp and a folk dancer for the camp. Dave served as a liaison between the Whitehall Schools and a local Native American Indian tribe. He also loved to do woodworking.
Dave is survived by his wife Jean whom he married on June 26, 1976; his children, Kim Moon, Scott (Jolene) Moon, Brian (Angie) Moon and Chelsea Moon; his grandchildren, Emily, Collin, Ruby, Carter and Thomas Moon and Emma and Kaley Keddell; three great-grandchildren; his brother, George Moon; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, John Moon, Ruby "Junior" Moon, Ella Wilcox, Betty Raymond, Mary Prehn, Robert Moon, Virginia Darling, Donald "Todd" Moon and Linda Ampey.
A service will be held on Thursday, October 22nd, 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church west of New Era with Pastor Sarah Samuelson officiating. This will be a "drive in" service. (see instructions at the top of the obituary). Please consider the Trinity Lutheran Food Pantry, 5631 W. Stony Lake Road, New Era, MI 49446 as a memorial.
