Charles "Chuck" John
Zegoski
July 14, 1941 – December 3, 2025
Charles "Chuck" John Zegoski, 84, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2025. He was born July 14, 1941, in Cadillac, the son of Joseph F. and Ethyl (Johnson) Zegoski.
Chuck was a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life. After earning his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, he began a long and fulfilling career with GE, where he remained until retirement. Outside of work, Chuck was always building, fixing, or creating something. He poured his heart into the family cottage in Benona, his dream project, and took great pride in every board, beam, and improvement. He also shared his talents generously, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and assisting at the Trinity Lutheran Food Pantry.
Chuck had a wonderful sense of humor. If you could get him going, you'd see his signature silent laugh; shoulders bouncing and red faced as he tried to hold it in. He was generous with his skills, knowledge, and time, offering kindness in his own unique way. His love often came in the form of tough honesty, practical help, and a refusal to enable anything less than your best.
He was the kind of man who would rather come over and fix something for you than sit down for a cup of coffee, it was his way of taking care of his people and spending time with them. While often quiet, he could talk at length with an old friend or anyone who pointed him in the right direction.
Though Chuck didn't regularly attend church, he remained strong in his Catholic faith and lived it daily through his actions. He was a good neighbor in every sense; loving others as himself, offering compassion, meeting needs, creating good, and choosing kindness.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 58 years, Andrea K. Zegoski; children, Kathryn A. Zegoski, Lynda S. Zegoski, and Jean M. (Ron) Pettengill; grandchildren, Jonathon (Julie) Zegoski, Asher N. Pettengill, Lacey M. Zegoski, Rea C. Pettengill, Charles W. Pettengill, and Zander J. Pettengill; great-grandchildren, Anthony J. Zegoski and Rowan M. Zegoski; and brothers, David Weatherwax and Eugene Weatherwax.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Ethyl (Johnson) Zegoski; his biological mother, Lucy Weatherwax; and siblings, Pete Zegoski and Marcy Zegoski.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity in Chuck's honor at https://secure.habitat.org.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
Harris Funeral Home, in Shelby, is in charge of arrangements.
