Wilma L. Whelan, age 100, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident for the past three years. Wilma was born May 17, 1919 in Crystal Valley, the daughter of Peter and Vivian (Unger) Terryn.
She was raised in Crystal Valley and married Floyd Powers on November 24, 1945. Wilma worked in several different jobs throughout the years, such as in a canning company in Hart, laundromats in Ludington and at Kysor of Cadillac in Rothbury. Floyd passed away in 1971. She married Amiel Whelan on August 27, 1977. He preceded her in death in 2003. She lived in Rothbury and later in Whitehall for several years before residing at the medical care facility.
Wilma is survived by her son, Rex Powers; grandson, Alan (Amanda) Powers; and great-grandson, Elliot Powers. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and their wives, Wallace (Maxine) Terryn and Howard (Jean) Terryn.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Ulysses Cemetery in Crystal Valley on Thursday, October 17th, 2 pm with Pastor Bill Ryder of Faith Christian Fellowship officiating. A luncheon will follow at Crystal Valley United Methodist Church.
