Welcome to the memorial page for

William C. McVicker

December 2, 1934 ~ September 1, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

William “Bill” McVicker of Pentwater passed away peacefully Friday, September 1st, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, whom he cherished.  He was born December 2nd, 1934 in Fruitport, Michigan to Oran and Marjorie (Quinnon) McVicker.

He served in the United States Army as a medic in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  Bill earned an Associate’s degree in business from Muskegon Business School.  He retired from Structural Concepts in Grand Haven in 1996.

Bill married Carol Lee Jacobs on May 18th, 1963 in St. Thomas Church in Muskegon, Michigan.  He and Carol raised five children and moved from Muskegon to Crystal Valley in 1974 and later moved to Pentwater.  His kindness and commitment to his family and faith is his legacy.

Bill was an active member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, co-chairing the ox-roast, serving as a Eucharistic minister, usher, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dedicated to family as well as his church, he coached his daughters’ softball teams during their younger years.  He was the legal guardian of his special-needs brothers, Pat and Bob, being the constant caring person in their lives.

He LOVED golf, enjoyed baking his famous cookies, orchestrating pranks, traveling, playing all manner of card games, and watching sports played by his children and grandchildren.  Bill had a true affinity for his Michigan teams (outside of Lansing), country-western music, film, history, and literature.  He was never happier than when surrounded by family who continue his example of faithful quiet leadership, recognizing life’s endless blessings, burdened by nothing, and duty-bound to honor God and family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. He is survived by his wife Carol, his daughters Kathy (Dave) Dillingham of Mears, Sharon (Marc) Wagner of Stanton, Laura (Scotie) Cousin of Atlantic Beach, Florida, Mary McVicker (Jon Plummer) of Pentwater, his son Michael (Melissa) McVicker  of Ann Arbor, his eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nephews and nieces.

The visitation will be held Thursday, September 7th at Harris Funeral Home, 267 N.
