William C. Dukes

William C. "Bill" Dukes, age 88, of Shelby, left this life for Heaven on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Muskegon, Michigan.  Bill was born June 8, 1931 in Hart to Wren and Auta (Myers) Dukes.

He was raised in the Campbell Lake area and moved to Shelby at the age of fifteen.  He graduated from Shelby High School.  He married Nancy Stevens on August 20, 1952.  Bill and Nancy settled in Shelby and later lived near Stony Lake.  He was employed at General Telephone at first and later work with Dupont took him to New Jersey for a time before moving to South Carolina for several years.  He also lived in Wyoming for two years before returning to this area to work at S.D. Warren in Muskegon for several years before his retirement.

Bill was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hart where he was the Sunday School superintendent and an elder.  He had served as supervisor for Benona Township.  He very much enjoyed spending time at the local coffee shops.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Roger Dukes (and Sis), Norman (Delane) Dukes, Michaele (Chuck) Morgan, Kenneth (Jane) Dukes, Jeffrey Dukes and Matthew Dukes; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and his sister, Elaine Buys.  He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, Robbie Dutton, Kevin Ernst and Kimberly Snyder, daughter-in-law, DeAnne Dukes, brother, Merlin Dukes and sisters, Ardath Isley and Vivian Goodenrath.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 27th, 11 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2087 N. Water Road, Hart with Pastor Richard Miller officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shelby.  Please consider Our Savior Lutheran Church, or Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence, 1050 W. Western Ave. Muskegon, MI 49441 as a memorial.
