William R. "Bill" Abrams, age 93, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 in Muskegon. He was born February 21, 1926 in Detroit, to Frank and Mabel (Bloxom) Abrams.
Bill was raised in Detroit. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater where he was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. He was a firefighter for the City of Detroit for twenty-five years before retirement. He was also a partner in Abrams Moving and Storage with his brother, Richard. He married Nancy (Linzell) on October 6, 1972. The Abrams moved to Shelby upon retirement in the early 1970's. Nancy passed away on January 6, 2014. Bill loved to fish, hunt and snowmobile.
He is survived by his children, Arthur Abrams (Geraldine Alstermark), Kathleen Neal (Hubert deceased), Peggy Hajduk (David) and Patti Banka (David); thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Don Abrams (Doris deceased); and sister, Evelyn (Peter) Kamas. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Thrasher and brothers, Frank (Barbara surviving), Richard (Deloris surviving) and George (Dorothy deceased) Abrams.
Visitation is Wednesday, June 12th, 11 am to 1 pm with the funeral to follow at 1 pm at Harris Funeral Home in Shelby with Pastor Dan Barnum-Steggerda officiating. Interment will be in Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia. Please consider the City of Detroit Firemen's Fund Association, 1301 Third Street, Suite 329, Detroit, MI 48226 as a memorial.
