Tillie J. (Machovsky) Nelson

Mrs. Tillie Nelson, age 93, of White River Township, Montague passed away peacefully November 18 at home. 

She was born December 8, 1923 in Grant Township (Rothbury) the seventh of ten children to Frank and Marie (Svarovska) Machovsky and grew up on the family farm.  She was very proud of her Czech Ancestory.  On May 1, 1948 in Rothbury she married Harold A. Nelson and moved to White River Township.  He preceded her in death on December 17, 2010. 

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church for many years and was a member of the St. Judes Circle for many years.  She was a life member of the White Lake VFW Auxiliary where she worked in the kitchen on the Blood Drives for many years.  She was well known for her vegetable and berry garden and her delicious desserts.  She enjoyed the many years of summer vacations in the U.P. at the cabin her husband built and spending many years of wintering in Donna, Texas.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Rick) Fekken, Arved (Marta) Nelson and Delores “Dee” DeMorrow all of White River Township; eight grandchildren, Erich (Melanie) Fekken, Natalie (Dan) Roesler, Stacie (Chad) Songer, Nick (Victoria) DeMorrow, Deanna (Nick) Bianchi, Holly (Cam) Personnett, Jeff (Amy) Nelson and Melissa DeMorrow; and twelve great-grandchildren, Tehya, Karissa, Marikathleen, Ella, Dawson, E. Colten, Emilia, Evelyn, Emma, twins Deklin and Dakoda and Lucas; and a sister-in-law, Elnora Machovsky.  She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her daughter, Marie Nelson; granddaughter, Jennifer Nelson; and four infant great-grandchildren, Laine, Wyatt, Alexis and Scarlett Bianchi.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank (Leatrice), Jerry (Leona) and Ed; and her sisters, Mary (Peter) Hiddema, Stacey (Wm.) Melka, Blanche (Wm.) Kooi, Lillian (Bob) Mund, Anna (Lou) Czarny and Elsie (Bart) Robart.

The Rosary will be recited Saturday, November 25th at 9:30 at St. James Catholic Church in Montague and visitation will follow at the church beginning at 10 am.  The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 am at the church with Father Peter Omogo as Celebrant.  Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Montague.   Memorials to St. James Catholic Cemetery Fund, 5149 Dowling Street, Montague, MI  49437 at greatly appreciated.  Arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home in Shelby.
