Sergeant Patrick Herremans

Sergeant Patrick Neil (Pat) Herremans, 44, of Muskegon, Michigan passed away January 10, 2018 surrounded by his loving family and dear friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  Pat was born in Hart, Michigan on February 27, 1973.  He loved to play basketball for the Walkerville Wildcats where he graduated in 1991.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University in 1995.

Pat had a long and successful career as a police officer.  He began working part-time as a police officer for the cities of Shelby and Rothbury before moving to St. Louis, Missouri to work full-time with the Kirkwood Police Department.  He returned to Michigan in 2001 and took a position with the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department.  During Pat’s tenure at the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department, he served his community as a deputy, an undercover narcotics officer for WEMET, member of the SWAT team, a detective and finally as a sergeant for the road patrol until his medical retirement in August of 2017.  Pat’s most important goals as a police officer were a successful mission and getting every last officer home safely to their families.

Pat and Laura loved riding their Harley motorcycle and camping with family and friends.  Pat was an avid outdoorsman and shared this passion with his sons, family and friends.  He took great pride in watching Landen shoot his first deer last fall.  Pat enjoyed Braden’s happy personality, heartwarming smile and uncanny knack for finding birds and turtles (alive or dead) to play with while camping. 

Pat is survived by his adoring wife Laura; his beautiful boys Landen and Braden; his loving parents John and Donna Herremans; Laura’s children, A.J. (Courtney) and Abigail (Daniel); siblings Craig (Lynda) Herremans, Kathleen Herremans, Louis (Gwen) Herremans and twin Michael (Audrey) Herremans; nieces and nephews Jonathan (Jamie) Herremans, Brittany Herremans, Michele (Leo) Uber, Krysta (Brent) Goslin, Briana (R.J.) Virkstis, Kayla Erickson, Ashley (Jerry) Gran, Christian (Nicole) Herremans, Morgan Herremans, Blake Herremans and Cole Herremans; great nieces and nephews Liam Goslin, Olivia Goslin, Hunter Virkstis and Macy Herremans; and mother of Landen and Braden, Jennifer Herremans.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 12th, from  5-8 pm at Shelby Road Baptist Church, 4066 W. Shelby Road, Shelby.

A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, January 13th, 2 pm at the church.  A reception will immediately follow at the church.

Memorial donations in memory of Pat may be made to the Estate of Patrick Neil Herremans for the benefit of his children.
